Description

Crispy Chicken Flautas filled with tender chicken and cheese, perfect for autumn gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups shredded cooked chicken (rotisserie chicken works great)
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or pepper jack)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 10-12 corn tortillas
  • Oil for frying (or choose an air fryer for a healthier option)
  • Optional toppings: sour cream, guacamole, salsa, and fresh cilantro

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Filling: In a large mixing bowl, combine shredded chicken, cheese, cumin, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.
  2. Soften the Tortillas: Wrap your tortillas in a damp cloth and microwave them for about 30 seconds to make them pliable. This step is crucial to prevent tearing when rolling your flautas.
  3. Fill and Roll the Tortillas: Place about 2 tablespoons of the chicken mixture at one end of a tortilla and roll it tightly. Secure the edge with a toothpick if necessary, ensuring the filling stays intact.
  4. Fry the Flautas: Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Once hot, gently add the rolled flautas, frying until golden brown and crispy on all sides, about 3-4 minutes. If using an air fryer, place the rolled flautas in the basket and cook at 375°F for about 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  5. Serve: Remove the flautas from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil. Serve hot with your choice of toppings.

Notes

Using rotisserie chicken makes this recipe quick and easy. For extra crunch, lightly brush the rolled flautas with oil before frying or air frying.
